What height is right for my band?

This is easy...

OUR MOST POPULAR MUSIC STAND. The 28" stand is the most popular music stand for the front row of a sitting sax section in jazz ensembles. This music stand height outsells every other size by 20-1. Why? For a balanced saxophone ensemble sound, the height of the bell must be above the bottom lip of the stand (19” on 28” stands).  This is not an issue with a conventional music stand because the air can move freely around the bell.  But using a jazz music stand if the sound gets captured within the stand itself, it will affect the blended sound of the section. A taller stand will affect the sound of a sitting saxophone player. This 28” height is used by all professional bands, high school jazz ensembles, college jazz ensembles, and the military.

5 stands. One-Piece Construction for stability. Why fool with separate tops and bottoms. These stands fold flat and are one piece. The best stand in the world!! Lasts for years!

Also known as Jazz Band Fronts, Dance band music stands, stage band music stands, these Humes and Berg Swing It Jazz Band music stands are the most popular big band jazz or swing band music stands on the market today. They are lightweight, look great, and store away easily. And the case is included with the purchase of any 5 of these stands.

Manufactured so each stand can withstand heavy use, is weather-resistant, and very lightweight, 2-3 lbs. This stand will hold up to years of use is made of 1 piece construction, folds flat, has a hole for a music light cord. I have used heavy 3 inch, 3 ring binders full of music on these stands for years. These stands are made of a corrugated plasticized type material.

The material is smooth enough so that your band's logo can be painted on the front. Or you can use a vinyl decal or "coroplast" type board (readily available from graphics sign makers) which can be attached using velcro on the front. Graphics are readily available locally AND in your control from your local graphics sign company (use front dimensions below).

What is Corrugated Plastic?

Corrugated plastic is similar to corrugated cardboard boxes except all of the material is made of plastic. And like corrugated cardboard, corrugated plastic has a defined grain to it. It can be bent easily in one direction, the grain direction. But it is difficult to bend against the grain. Hume’s and Berg’s unique manufacturing process forces the grain to be bent in the opposite direction allowing for their patented one-piece construction. Sometimes this bending against the grain reveals whiteness along the bend. This is a natural occurrence in the manufacturing process. It does not affect the quality and durability of the music stands.

 Standard Graphics on Jazz Band Stands

We no longer do the graphics because it is much less expensive for you to use your local sign maker to do it. Below is how it is done.

The standard method today for placing your logo on the front of jazz band stands is by using a printed vinyl sign featuring your logo that is applied directly to the stand itself.

A second method is to apply the vinyl sign to a separate substrate, such as the material used for yard sale signs. This substrate is then attached to the front of the stands usually with velcro.

But vinyl can also be applied directly to any stand "front" of any material and look professional. But the second method using a separate substrate with velcro has been adopted by many for the "Swing It" stands. The second method allows you more flexibility to change your logo graphics on the stands. Schools with several jazz ensembles, for example, could use the same stands but with different ensemble logos.

Today's graphic printing technology can produce a vinyl sign to fit any music stand. Most sign makers or printers today have the equipment on-site for vinyl printing. A logo design can be done in almost any shape and in almost any color and printed on vinyl. Fonts and font sizes vary by printer, however.

The process is relatively simple.

1. A logo is designed on a computer;
2. a vinyl sign with the logo is printed;
3. the sign is affixed to the stand or the substrate.

The entire sign can be attached if there is a desire to maintain a certain background. Or the logo design can be cut out and used with the music stand background. Experienced sign makers can physically apply the vinyl to the stand or the substrate with relative ease.

The first step is to contact a local sign maker (Printer) that has vinyl graphics printing capability. The Printer can then produce a logo for you or instruct you how to send your logo directly to them in a computer file. The Printer will then provide you with a rendering of how the logo will look on your music stands or substrate. You will then be asked for any changes or approval.

Obviously, if the graphics are being applied directly to the music stands the Printer will need the stands in their possession. If they are using a separate substrate then they will need to know the dimensions.

I have used these for years, with weekly rehearsals and gigs, taking them in and out of their case, carrying their cases around, packing them in the band trailer and they look as good as new. I started using these in 2008. The thumbnail pictures were taken in 2011 and 2016 after we velcroed the name of our band on them using similar material. They still look new. I use 10 of these, and some nights they get packed with 7 in one case and only 3 in the other. So you can use the FREE CARRYING CASE to hold more than 5 stands.

These stands may ship directly from the manufacturer from Humes and Berg in INDIANA to domestic destinations.
